Checking the status of your E-2 visa application depends on where you filed it—either from within the United States or at a U.S. Embassy/Consulate abroad.
1. If You Applied Within the U.S. (Change of Status)
If you filed Form I-129 to change your status through USCIS, use their tracking tools:
- Online Tracker: Enter your 13-character receipt number (e.g., EAC, WAC, LIN) into the USCIS Case Status Online tool.
- Personal Account: Create a myUSCIS account to receive automatic email or text alerts whenever your status changes.
- Phone Inquiry: Call the USCIS Contact Center at 1-800-375-5283 (or 212-620-3418 if calling from outside the U.S.).
2. If You Applied Outside the U.S. (Consular Processing)
If you applied at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate, your case is handled by the Department of State:
- CEAC Tracker: Visit the Consular Electronic Application Center (CEAC) website.
- Required Info: Select “NONIMMIGRANT VISA (NIV)” and enter your Application ID or Case Number (found on your DS-160 confirmation page).
- Interview Location: You must also select the specific location where you interviewed or sent your documents.
3. Key Status Meanings
- Case Was Received: USCIS has your application but hasn’t assigned it to an officer yet.
- Actively Being Reviewed: An officer is currently evaluating your evidence.
- Request for Evidence (RFE): Additional documents are needed; check your mail immediately.
- Issued: Your visa has been approved and is being printed into your passport.
