John and Elizabeth secured approval of their E-2 visa applications at the U.S. Embassy in London on 2 October 2026, following a lengthy application process and an interview lasting approximately seven minutes. Global Immigration Partners PLLC represented John as the principal E2 treaty investor and Elizabeth as his accompanying spouse. Attorney Eric Sustad prepared the file.

The business and their plans

John, a British entrepreneur with experience in business development, recruitment and operational leadership, established a residential cleaning business in the Hamptons area of Long Island, New York.

The business was designed to serve homeowners, short-term holiday rental properties and real estate agents preparing homes for viewings. John would own and direct the enterprise, applying his commercial and management experience to its development.

The application documented his full ownership, leased office premises in Sag Harbor, equipment purchases and commercial arrangements. A detailed business plan set out revenue projections and plans to recruit U.S. workers. It projected four employees by the end of the first year and 15 full-time employees by the end of year five. These were business-plan forecasts rather than completed hiring outcomes.

Documenting the investment

The application presented a total investment commitment of approximately $120,000. At filing, approximately $53,000 had been spent on business-related costs, with a further $67,000 held in escrow for release upon visa approval.

The evidence included bank records, details of business expenditure and an accountant’s explanation of the source of the funds. The application also documented John’s British citizenship and UK residence, his intended role directing the company, and Elizabeth’s application as his spouse.

Global Immigration Partners PLLC assembled and submitted the enterprise registration and personal E-2 applications in November 2025.

Managing the wait and preparing for the interview

The period before the interview invitation proved lengthy. John and Elizabeth remained in contact with the firm throughout 2026, seeking updates and expressing concern about the impact on their business plans, particularly the Hamptons’ peak season.

The Embassy issued an invitation to schedule the interview on 25 August 2026. The appointment was arranged for 2 October.

Because many months had elapsed since filing, the firm’s preparation focused on the current position of the business and the applicants’ ability to explain its investment, activities and plans. The team provided a proactive checklist for updating the file and arranged interview preparation. These updates were undertaken in preparation for the interview; they had not been requested by the Embassy.

Elizabeth later reported that the pre-interview practice session had been extremely helpful and that the guidance closely reflected their eventual experience.

What happened at the E2 Visa interview

John and Elizabeth attended the U.S. Embassy in London together. Their appointment was scheduled for 8:00 a.m., and they arrived at approximately 7:15 a.m. Elizabeth recalled an extended queue that moved quickly.

They progressed through check-in, security screening and fingerprinting before the interview. At check-in, they presented their passports, passport photographs and DS-160 confirmation documents.

The interview took place in a small white room and lasted approximately seven minutes. Elizabeth described the consular officer as friendly and professional. He typed while asking questions, with much of the discussion directed to John.

In her detailed follow-up, Elizabeth recalled these questions:

  • What does the business do?
  • How much have you invested, and how much have you spent so far?
  • What are the projected revenues?
  • What have you purchased to date?
  • What relevant experience do you have?
  • Where is the business located?

The discussion covered the nature of the enterprise, the investment and expenditure, its commercial projections, and John’s relevant experience.

Elizabeth reported that both applications were approved approximately seven minutes into the interview. She felt the officer was principally confirming the details already presented in the application.

The outcome

After the interview, Elizabeth thanked Global Immigration Partners PLLC for its E2 Visa guidance and support throughout the process. In her follow-up, she particularly praised the preparation session and the team’s expertise.

John and Elizabeth’s case brought together a defined service business, documented investment, commercial planning and preparation for questions about the enterprise. Following the extended wait, they were able to explain their plans clearly during a brief interview and reported approval that day.

This case study reflects the application materials and the applicants’ account of their interview. Applicants are identified by first names only.
